How to Get the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2 (All Fragment Locations and Crafting Recipe)

The Repair Tool is one of the most practical items you can unlock early in Subnautica 2. It lets you patch up your Tadpole Diver after taking damage, restore broken doors inside wrecks to reach locked areas, and fix damaged base components without burning through replacement materials. You can get it before heading into deeper regions, but all three scan locations are easy to swim right past if you do not know where to look.

How to Get the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2

This guide covers every fragment location, the full crafting recipe, and what to prioritize before you start the hunt.

How to Unlock the Repair Tool Blueprint

You cannot craft the Repair Tool until you unlock its blueprint. To unlock it, you need to scan three different broken Repair Tools with your Scanner. Scanning the same one twice does not count, and you need three unique instances for the blueprint to register.

Once you scan all three, the blueprint unlocks automatically and appears under the Equipment and Tools tab of your Fabricator.

All three fragments sit close to the Lifepod, and none of them require special upgrades to reach. Having a Tadpole Diver or at least the first air tank upgrade makes the dives much more manageable. Before heading out, open your character menu and enable all landmark signals so the entrances show up clearly on your compass.

Fragment 1: Chap’s Base (Southeast, ~220 Meters)

Head roughly 220 meters southeast of the Lifepod. Look for a large stone pillar rising from the ocean floor with a blue light near its base. The cave entrance opens up at the bottom of that pillar, and a ring-like opening leads you inside.

Swim into the cave and look northwest. You will see a red hatch leading into a small abandoned habitat. The Repair Tool sits on a table near the entrance. NOA sends you to this exact spot early in the main story to collect Chap’s blackbox, so you may find this fragment naturally during that mission. Before leaving, interact with the Biobed inside to collect a small inventory expansion.

Fragment 2: Southern Wreck (~270 to 300 Meters South)

Swim roughly 270 to 300 meters south of the Lifepod, dive down, and look for a large wrecked metal structure on the ocean floor. There is a small entrance on the south side of the wreck, positioned close to a row of tall rocky cliffs.

Swim inside, go left, and find the hole in the cracked elevator floor. Drop through it to reach the lower level. The second Repair Tool is sitting on a sofa in the corner of the room below.

Fragment 3: Northeast Wreck (~310 to 380 Meters Northeast)

The third fragment is inside a larger wreck located roughly 310 to 380 meters northeast of the Lifepod. Approach from below and swim up through an opening at the bottom of the structure to reach the interior.

Once inside, move toward the locked doors at the far end. The Repair Tool sits on the floor directly in front of one of them. While you are in this wreck, you can also scan a Processor, a Tadpole, and a Bioreactor. The northeast wreck holds the Rebreather blueprint behind a door that the Repair Tool can open once you have it crafted, so it is worth revisiting.

This dive goes deep. Bring extra air bladders or upgrade your air tank before attempting it, or you risk running out of oxygen on the way back up.

Repair Tool Crafting Materials

Once you scan all three fragments, return to your base and open the Fabricator. The Repair Tool sits under the Equipment and Tools tab and requires four materials:

MaterialQuantityHow to Get It
Titanium Ingotx1Process 6x Titanium Ore in a Processor
Wiring Kitx1Craft using Silver Ore (x1) and Copper Wire (x1)
Basic Batteryx1Craft from Copper Ore (x2) and Acidic Raion Pouch (x1)
Sulfurx1Found in the high-temperature volcanic biome east of the Lifepod

The trickiest material is Sulfur. It only spawns in the high-temperature volcanic zone east of the Lifepod, and you need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation before you can survive those temperatures. Grab that adaptation from the Bloom-infested Angel Comb west of the Lifepod. You will also want a Sonic Resonator to mine materials efficiently once you get into that biome.

Titanium Ingots in Subnautica 2 require a Processor step that catches many players off guard. Raw Titanium alone is not enough. Build the Processor first, then convert your ore into ingots before visiting the Fabricator.

For the Wiring Kit, you need Silver in Subnautica 2, which does not spawn near the Lifepod. It pushes you out of the starting biome, so plan that resource run as a dedicated trip rather than assuming you will stumble across it.

What the Repair Tool Does

The Repair Tool covers two key functions in Subnautica 2.

  • Vehicle Repair: Equip the Repair Tool on your hotbar, approach a damaged Tadpole Diver, and hold the interaction prompt until the repair finishes. Collisions with rocks and hostile creatures accumulate quickly, and rebuilding a totaled Tadpole costs far more resources than a quick patch job.
  • Door Repair: Broken and malfunctioning doors appear throughout the Subnautica 2 regions and biomes, and the Repair Tool restores them so you can enter. The northeast wreck is the clearest early opportunity. Fix the door there to unlock the Rebreather blueprint, which extends your dive time by a significant margin and opens up deeper areas of Proteus.

The Repair Tool draws power from a Basic Battery. Keep an eye on the blue power meter and swap in a fresh battery when it empties. Battery consumption is low during standard early-game use, so a single battery covers most short repair sessions.

We strongly recommend getting all three fragments and crafting the Repair Tool before setting out toward the Tadpole Pens. That mission pushes you nearly 690 meters from the Lifepod, and a damaged Tadpole with no way to fix it mid-dive turns a manageable mission into a genuinely frustrating one. Play Now!

FAQs

How do you use the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2?

Equip the Repair Tool from your hotbar, swim close to the damaged vehicle or object, and hold the interaction prompt until the repair bar fills completely. The tool works on Tadpole Divers, broken base components, and certain damaged doors found inside wrecks.

What materials do you need to craft the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2?

The Repair Tool requires one Titanium Ingot, one Wiring Kit, one Basic Battery, and one Sulfur. Craft it at the Fabricator under the Equipment and Tools tab after scanning three Repair Tool fragments.

Can the Repair Tool open locked doors in Subnautica 2?

Yes. Certain damaged doors inside wrecks and abandoned structures can be repaired and opened with the Repair Tool. The northeast wreck near the Lifepod is the most useful early example, where fixing the door unlocks the Rebreather blueprint.

Where do you get Sulfur for the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2?

Sulfur spawns exclusively in the high-temperature volcanic biome east of the Lifepod. You need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation before entering that zone. Get it from the Bloom-infested Angel Comb located west of the Lifepod.

Do you need to scan three different Repair Tools to unlock the blueprint?

Yes. The blueprint requires three unique scan instances. Scanning the same Repair Tool more than once does not count toward the blueprint progress, so you need to find three separate broken Repair Tools across the map.
