The Rogue is one of the most rewarding classes in Calamity Mod, but also one of the easiest to play wrong. This guide covers the best weapons, armor, accessories, and stealth builds for every stage of progression, from your first Pre-Hardmode boss to the hardest Post-Moon Lord fights, so you always know what to equip and when.

Calamity Rogue Class Overview
The Calamity Mod adds the Rogue as a fully developed class with content spread throughout the entire game. The class ships with 155 weapons, 30 accessories, 5 new full armor sets, 10 armor helmets, 1 modified vanilla armor set, and new modifiers.
Stealth Strikes: The Rogue’s defining mechanic. Building stealth by avoiding item or weapon use enables powerful Stealth Strikes with high-damage attacks and unique per-weapon effects.
Weapon Types:
- Throwing Weapons (Consumable): High burst, limited ammo.
- Non-Consumable Daggers and Boomerangs: Balanced DPS.
- AoE and Projectile-Based Javelins: Best for multi-segment bosses.
Playstyle: Hit-and-run, timing stealth strikes for maximum burst.
Rogue Damage Class
Most projectiles from rogue weapons and accessories deal rogue damage, a unique damage class with its own set of modifiers. Rogue stats inherit from the generic damage class as well as tModLoader’s throwing damage class, meaning accessories and armor that boost throwing also boost rogue and vice versa. The exceptions are the Glove of Precision and Glove of Recklessness, which affect rogue stats only and do not transfer to other classes.
Stealth Mechanics
Stealth is a Rogue-exclusive stat that players access by wearing almost any rogue-class armor set or its respective helmet. Stealth increases whenever the player avoids using items or weapons, and it builds at a higher rate while standing still. Stealth decreases whenever the player uses items or weapons, regardless of movement.
The maximum Stealth value ranges between 50 and 130 depending on the armor equipped, though accessories can push it higher. Achieving full Stealth takes exactly 2 seconds while standing still and 4 seconds while moving. A sound effect plays when the player hits full Stealth, and the stealth meter in the upper left of the screen turns yellow to confirm it.
For every point of Stealth, the player becomes slightly more transparent and gains -3 aggro. The transparency effect does not apply near a town NPC and can be disabled through configuration options.
Stealth Damage Bonus: Stealth grants bonus rogue damage through a formula based on the weapon’s use time, the player’s average stealth generation multiplier, and their maximum stealth. A fully optimized stealth build can reach an additive 250% or higher rogue damage increase from stealth alone.
Stealth Strike
A stealth strike fires when the player uses a rogue weapon at full stealth, indicated by the notch at the top of the stealth bar lighting up. The player’s stealth depletes on execution.
Certain accessories reduce both the stealth required and consumed per strike:
- Coin of Deceit: Requires and consumes 90% of maximum stealth.
- Ruin Medallion: Requires and consumes 75% of maximum stealth.
- Dark Matter Sheath / Eclipse Mirror: Require and consume 50% of maximum stealth.
Most accessory effects that trigger on stealth strike hits can only proc a maximum of 3 times per stealth strike. The lifesteal effect from Bloodstained Glove and its upgrades has no such limit.
| Weapon | Stealth Strike Effect |
|---|---|
| Crystalline | Bounces between enemies |
| Ichor Spear | Explodes on impact |
| Stardisk | Rebounds and pierces |
| Blazing Star | Releases extra projectiles |
| Seraphim | Multi-hit homing blades |
Pro Tip: Use stealth strikes on boss openers or during high vulnerability windows for maximum burst.

The Rogue class covers six weapon categories, each suiting a different playstyle:

Weapon Upgrade Trees
| Early | Mid | Late |
|---|---|---|
| Crystalline | Prismalline | Ichor Spear |
| Blazing Star | Seraphim | |
| Stardisk | Celestus | Supernova |
Farm Tip: Sunken Sea, Desert, and early boss drops cover most early-to-mid rogue gear.
World-Evil Rogue Alternatives
- Crimson: Unlocks Filthy Glove and Bloodstained Glove early.
- Corruption: Grants Rotten Dogtooth, which is better in spam builds.
- Drunk Seed: Enables both routes and encourages hybrid builds.
Early Game (Pre-Hardmode)
Pre-Boss (King Slime, Desert Scourge, EoC)
This phase marks the true starting point of the Rogue journey. The player relies on fast, accessible weapons and movement tools to handle beginner bosses. Mobility and stealth burst windows are limited, so early weapons should be spam-friendly or quick to recharge stealth. Prioritize desert and ocean resources to craft or acquire the first reliable Rogue tools.
Weapons:
- Crystalline: Best all-around choice; works for both spam and stealth.
- Gilded Dagger: Strong stealth option.
- Sand Dollar: Spam-friendly and easy to obtain.
Armor: Snow Ruffian Armor, then Victide Armor after defeating the Desert Scourge.
Accessories: Coin of Deceit, Scuttler’s Jewel, Hermes Boots, Shark Tooth Necklace.
Pre-Skeletron (Queen Bee, Brain of Cthulhu, EoW)
This phase ramps up the challenge significantly. Enemies are tankier, bosses have more complex attack patterns, and stealth becomes increasingly valuable. World evil and biome-specific weapons create the first notable divergence in viable loadouts at this stage. Build flexibility is key as the player prepares to face Skeletron.
Weapons:
- Sky Stabber: Strong for Queen Bee and stealth strikes.
- Mycoroot: High DPS but dangerous to use safely.
Armor: Sulphurous Armor (best pre-Skeletron pick).
Accessories: Filthy Glove or Bloodstained Glove, Terraspark Boots, Counter Scarf.
Pre-Wall of Flesh (Skeletron Cleared)
After clearing Skeletron and nearing the end of Pre-Hardmode, upgrade to Statigel Armor, crafted from Purified Gel dropped by the Slime God. This set provides a significant jump in both damage and defense and serves as the bridge into Hardmode. Its standout feature is a damage immunity window that triggers when taking 100 or more damage in a single hit, which lets the player swap out defensive accessories for more aggressive choices against harder bosses. This set should carry through the Wall of Flesh fight.
- Armor: Statigel Armor (post-Slime God).
- Accessories: Filthy Glove or Bloodstained Glove, Terraspark Boots, Counter Scarf.
Where to Farm Early Weapons:
- Crystalline: Craft with Victory Shards from Desert enemies.
- Sand Dollar: Found in the Sunken Sea.
- Gilded Dagger: Drops from Golden Crates or Ocean loot.
Hardmode Progression
Pre-Mech Bosses (Destroyer, Twins, Skeletron Prime)
Early Hardmode is where Calamity Mod begins to test mechanical mastery. The Destroyer requires AoE piercing across its segments, the Twins demand constant dodging under relentless pressure, and Skeletron Prime punishes poor positioning hard. Mid-tier rogue gear that balances mobility, stealth strike uptime, and spam potential is essential.
- Weapons: Blazing Star, Ichor Spear, Prismalline.
- Armor: Titan Heart Armor, then Daedalus Armor.
- Accessories: Mirage Mirror, Ruin Medallion, Fairy Wings, Bat Wings.
Post-Mech (Plantera, Golem, Duke Fishron)
- Weapons: Heavenfallen Stardisk, Crushsaw Crasher.
- Armor: Umbraphile Armor, then Hydrothermic Armor.
- Accessories: Glove of Precision, Vampiric Talisman, Asgard’s Valor.
Endgame (Post-Moon Lord and Beyond)
Pre-Providence / Polterghast
- Weapons: Elemental Disk, Tarragon Throwing Dart.
- Armor: Empyrean Armor (glass cannon, highest damage), then Tarragon Armor (tank option for players who prefer defense and an invincibility trigger on critical hits).
- Accessories: Dark Matter Sheath, Abyssal Mirror, Elysian Aegis.
Post-Polterghast
After defeating Polterghast, craft Bloodflare Armor. This set combines Empyrean’s offensive output with defense that surpasses Tarragon, making it the best hybrid option in the endgame. It adds passive health regeneration, causes enemies below 50% HP to drop hearts, and grants stat boosts when the player’s health stays above 80%. Players who struggled to choose between Empyrean and Tarragon should default to Bloodflare here.
- Armor: Bloodflare Armor.
- Accessories: Dark Matter Sheath, Abyssal Mirror, Elysian Aegis.
Post-DoG / Yharon / Supreme Calamitas
Weapons: Gods’ Paranoia, Celestus.
Armor: God Slayer Armor (rewards flawless movement with a 10% rogue stat boost at full health and an invincible omnidirectional dash), then Auric Tesla Armor (fuses Bloodflare, Tarragon, and God Slayer effects with 100 bonus max health for endgame survivability).
Accessories: Nanotech, Eclipse Mirror, Asgardian Aegis.
Spam Build: Demonshade Armor
Players running a pure spam build should consider Demonshade Armor as an endgame alternative to Auric Tesla. It is the only multiclass armor set that remains viable for Rogue because its raw damage output allows non-stop weapon spam without needing stealth. The set summons ten minions and a Red Devil, inflicts a debuff that increases damage enemies take, and makes mindless projectile spam a genuinely strong endgame strategy. The trade-off is a full loss of stealth mechanics, so players must commit to one playstyle or the other.

- Plantera: Spam Crushsaw Crasher and dodge aggressively between shots.
- Cryogen: Fire the Ichor Spear stealth strike during his slowdown phase.
- Devourer of Gods: The Old Reaper is the best weapon here; time stealth bursts carefully.
- Supreme Calamitas: Stealth strike with Celestus and use Supernova for heart and seeker clearing.
Class Swap Advice
Players looking to mix classes can run a Rogue/Melee Hybrid by equipping Asgardian Aegis, Nanotech, and Dark Matter Sheath alongside hybrid weapons like Stardisk and Celestus. This setup works well in boss rush and multiplayer scenarios.
Arena Tips
- Build horizontal space for Stardisk to rebound effectively.
- Use vertical mobility platforms for Javelins like Ichor Spear.
- Place Shadow Candles, Heart Lanterns, and Campfires before every major fight.
Multiplayer Rogue Role
- Charge stealth while teammates hold aggro and tank hits.
- Focus stealth bursts on clone and summon phases where enemies cluster.
- Coordinate burst timing with teammates for maximum phase damage.
Final Rogue Loadout
| Slot | Best Option |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Celestus / Supernova / Scarlet Devil |
| Armor | Auric Tesla Armor |
| Boots | Angel Treads |
| Wings | Drew’s Wings / Silva Wings |
| Trinkets | Nanotech, Eclipse Mirror, Asgardian Aegis, Radiance, Venerated Locket |
The Rogue class rewards precision and timing. Stealth mechanics amplify burst damage in ways no other class can match, but poor timing wastes those windows completely. Use this guide to track gear upgrades across every phase, understand the stealth formula, and pick weapons that suit each boss’s pattern. Master the stealth strike rhythm and the Rogue becomes one of the strongest classes in Calamity Mod.
