The 1.0 update for Escape from Tarkov massively expanded Interchange’s outdoor area, adding new combat routes, loot spots, and a brand-new extraction: Smuggler’s Tunnel. Because this extract sits deep inside the expanded forest section—past containers, hills, and a hostile scav camp—many players are still unsure where to find it. This guide walks you through the exact path, what items you need, and what dangers to expect along the way.
Smuggler’s Tunnel is not a standard walk-up extraction. You must bring a Green Flare to activate it, similar to other green-flare-based extracts like Klimov Street. If you enter the trigger zone without the flare, or fire it in the wrong place, you will not extract—and you expose yourself to nearby threats.

How to Reach Smuggler’s Tunnel Extraction
1. Start From the Outdoor Area Near Railway Exfil
Move outside the mall toward the side that connects to Scav Camp (Co-op extract) and the Railway Exfil. This is your main landmark for entering the forest region. From here, locate the rail tracks cutting through the woods.

2. Follow the Tracks Away From Railway
If you walk east along the rails, you reach Railway Exfil. Instead, go west, away from the exfil. Keep the mall behind or to your right as you push deeper into the forest. This will lead you toward the expanded map section and the path that eventually connects to the Customs transit area.

3. Move Toward the Freight Containers
You’ll soon reach a cluster of freight containers and idle trains. These containers act like elevated bridges that help funnel players toward the upper hill area.

Climb through the container path. Once you exit them, turn left, following the upward slope. This is the critical turn that leads toward the scav-occupied camp.
4. Approach the Scav Camp
You’ll arrive at a large forest camp packed with loot opportunities—but also several Scavs. Expect medium-range gunfights and ambushes behind tents, crates, and parked equipment.

This camp is a hotspot: rare loot spawns, weapon boxes, and valuable items often appear here. Because many players pass through it to reach Smuggler’s Tunnel, be ready for PvP as well.
5. Find the Northeast Checkpoint
From the camp, move toward its northeast corner. Look for:

- A blue freight container marked with a red star
- A checkpoint gate ahead
This checkpoint is the final approach. When you step close, your HUD will show the “Signal Flare” indicator—this confirms you are standing in the correct activation zone.
How to Extract at Smuggler’s Tunnel
Stand inside the extraction zone near the blue container, equip your Green Flare, and shoot it into the air. Once triggered correctly, move forward and the extraction countdown will begin.

If you fire the flare outside the designated zone, the extraction will not activate and hostile fire from the area can instantly punish the mistake.
Tips for Players
- Watch the camp. It contains loot, but Scavs and players frequently rotate through the area.
- Enter with stamina. The uphill container path and forest ridge require sustained movement.
- Green Flare is mandatory. Without it, Smuggler’s Tunnel is unusable.
- Extract quickly. The flare makes your position obvious, so don’t linger after firing it.
Smuggler’s Tunnel is one of the most rewarding extracts in Interchange’s expanded section. The surrounding camp offers strong loot, the journey provides multiple flank routes, and the extraction itself—while risky—gives players another late-raid escape option. Bring a Green Flare, stay alert during the container climb, and move decisively through the camp to secure a clean getaway. Play Now!
