Necrolei Cysts are a mid-game crafting material in Subnautica 2 that you need to produce Strong Acid. Strong Acid is one of the most critical resources in the game because it goes directly into crafting Power Cells, Advanced Batteries, and the Tadpole mini-sub. Where to Find Necrolei Cysts in Subnautica 2
Necrolei Cysts are the small turquoise-green flowers that grow on top of Stilt Orbs. Stilt Orbs are green, bulbous plants that stand up on long, neon-pink tendrils rooted to the seafloor. Each Stilt Orb has one Necrolei Cyst sitting on its top like a small flower crown.
Stilt Orbs almost always grow in clusters of two to eight, so when you find one you should find several nearby. At night, the surrounding biome glows bluish-purple, which makes the pink tendrils easier to spot.
Location 1: Northwest of the Lifepod (Primary Spot)
This is the largest Necrolei Cyst farming location in the early game and the one you should target first.
How to get there:
- Jump into the water from the Life Pod.
- Orient your compass HUD to the NW marker.
- Swim northwest for exactly 300 meters.
- Dive down to 40 meters depth.
Once you hit that distance and depth, you will enter a bioluminescent biome filled with large purple plants. These towering organisms have dark green ridged bodies with pink frills along their edges. Look near the base of these large plants rather than the open water around them. The Stilt Orbs and their Necrolei Cysts cluster close to the ground near the bigger organisms.
Enable all landmark signals from your character menu before the trip. The signals make it much easier to hold your bearing as you swim.
Location 2: North of the Lifepod Near the Wreckage
A secondary farming spot sits 280 meters directly north of the Life Pod. When you reach that distance, look for a piece of wreckage on the seafloor. Necrolei Cysts grow in the surrounding area and this location is worth clearing after you finish Location 1.
Location 3: Near the Old Habitat
The Old Habitat sits roughly 350 meters north of the Life Pod. NOA points you here during the black box investigation, so you may already be heading this direction. Once you reach the Old Habitat, turn left toward the large plants with the pink tendrils. The Stilt Orbs cluster near those plants. This spot is convenient to combine with the Processor blueprint scan, since you need to scan a Processor at the Old Habitat to unlock it for base construction.
Location 4: North of the Angel Comb Signal
A smaller cluster of Necrolei Cysts spawns approximately 90 meters north of the Angel Comb signal marker. This is worth grabbing as a secondary harvest after clearing the northwest biome, but it should not be your first stop.
How to Harvest Necrolei Cysts
Once you locate a Stilt Orb, the process is straightforward:
- Equip your Survival Multitool from your inventory.
- Approach the Stilt Orb and target the flower growth on top.
- Use the Survival Multitool to cut the cyst free.
- Collect the Necrolei Cyst from the water.
You cannot harvest or interact with the Stilt Orb itself, only the cyst on top. Each Stilt Orb yields one Necrolei Cyst per harvest. Collect every cyst in the area before heading back, because the plants are rarer than most early-game materials and you will need a decent stockpile for the crafting steps ahead.
How to Make Strong Acid in Subnautica 2
Strong Acid is crafted at the Processor, not the Fabricator. The Fabricator only lets you produce Mild Acid. Before you can craft Strong Acid, you need to scan a Processor to unlock the blueprint and then construct one in your base.
Scan location: The Old Habitat, roughly 350 meters north of the Life Pod. The Processor blueprint is available there once you reach that part of the NOA investigation chain.
Once your Processor is built and powered, select Strong Acid under the Refinement category and load in your cysts. The process takes 30 seconds per batch. Make sure your base has enough power running before you start, and consider adding more Solar Panels to your roof if you find the Processor cutting out mid-cycle.

How to reach the lava biome: Head approximately 230 meters southeast of the Life Pod. You need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation before you can enter safely, which makes this route significantly more time-intensive than the Necrolei Cyst method. Unlock the Necrolei Cyst route first.
Once inside the lava biome, find Sulfur by looking for small yellow deposits tucked into nooks near volcanic activity. Find Gold by mining the large honeycomb-shaped deposits that form around stone columns and arches. Each Gold deposit yields five Gold ore pieces when mined with a Sonic Resonator.
What Is Strong Acid Used For in Subnautica 2
Strong Acid is one of the most important progression materials in Subnautica 2. Here is what you need it to craft:
