Pet Eggs and Acquisition

With so many pets now in the game, and only three slots available at the start (more can be unlocked later), it’s important to know how to get them.

Most pets come from Pet Eggs, which can be purchased at Raphael’s Stall near the Gear Shop. Only a few types are available at a time, so the stock rotates.

Some eggs only appear during events like Oasis, Primal, or Zen, and certain pets can even be crafted, such as the Anti Bee Egg at the Crafting Table. A few pets—like Chicken Zombie, Football, and Lemon Lion—have been handed out for free during update launches, so it’s worth keeping an eye on special events.

Currently, Grow a Garden features 136 pets as of the 1.22.0 update. Each one has traits that can affect your farm, from boosting XP to applying powerful mutations. With only three active slots to start with, knowing which pets deserve a spot is key.

S-Tier Pets (Best in the Game)

These companions are must-haves, offering huge multipliers, rare mutations, or cooldown resets.

  • Butterfly – Converts fruits with five mutations into Rainbow (50x) every ~30 minutes, skipping favorited ones.
  • Disco Bee – 12.28% chance every ~20 minutes to apply Disco mutation (125x).
  • Raccoon – Clones a neighbor’s fruit every 15 minutes.
  • Spinosaurus – Transfers mutations from 4 plants onto one, prioritizing favorited crops.
  • T-Rex – Spreads one mutation across 3–4 fruits.
  • Mimic Octopus – Copies any active pet’s ability.

  • Firefly – Grants Shocked mutation (50x).

  • Seal – Returns the egg of a pet you just sold, perfect for Mythical/Divine recycling.
  • Fennec Fox – Copies rare neighbor mutations (Plasma, Dawnbound, Voidtouched).
  • Cockatrice – Multi-role: can grant Gold/Silver variants, speed egg hatching, give Toxic mutation (15x), or boost pet XP.
  • Luminous Sprite – Adds Luminous mutation (50x) fruits.
  • Glimmering Sprite – Adds Glimmering mutation, crucial for Fairy Update event crops.

  • Pancake Mole – Finds gear like Sprinklers (up to Grandmaster), Harvest Tool, Recall Wrench, and Sheckles.

Why S-Tier? These pets fuel mutation stacking, provide huge multipliers, or create rare variants that scale your farm into billions in crop value.

A-Tier Pets (Strong Choices)

Excellent companions that provide strong, consistent benefits.

  • Mole – Digs up gear every ~80s (Sprinklers, Lightning Rod, Trowel).
  • Capybara – Prevents hunger loss and grants XP per second.
  • Triceratops – Speeds up plant growth across multiple crops.
  • Moon Cat – Boosts fruit size (1.51x) and saves Blood Moon plants (6.1% chance).
  • Spriggan – 15.21% chance to apply Bloom mutation (8x).
  • Tanchozuru – Adds Tranquil mutation (20x).
  • Ostrich – Hatches pets already aged 1–4.
  • Hotdog Daschund – 20% chance every ~3.57 minutes to add XP or reduce cooldowns.

  • Spaghetti Sloth – Cycles Sauce/Meatball/Pasta mutations; all combined → Spaghetti (15x).
  • Cooked Owl – Grants Burnt (4x) or Cooked (25x) mutations ~15% chance every 15 min.
  • Blood Hedgehog – Boosts size/variants for prickly fruits (Durian, Pineapple, etc.).
  • Sea Turtle – Sends ~1,000 XP every 11 minutes and applies Wet (2x).
  • Pack Bee – Expands inventory slots.
  • Snail – Sometimes gives a seed from recently harvested plants.

  • Hedgehog – Variant booster for prickly fruits, weaker than Blood Hedgehog.
  • Silver Monkey – Refunds fruit sales.

C-Tier Pets (Average Utility)

  • Deer / Spotted Deer – Duplicate berries, very low odds.

How Pets Work in Grow a Garden

Pets in Grow a Garden are designed as functional companions rather than decorative features. Each animal acts almost like “walking gear,” providing abilities that directly impact your farm. They can transform crops through mutations, accelerate plant growth, provide resources, or even duplicate seeds and fruits.

  • Acquisition: Pets are obtained by purchasing and hatching eggs, which can cost a significant amount of Sheckles. Some are also tied to events, shops, or crafting.
  • Unique Traits: Every pet has its own ability, such as applying crop mutations, boosting XP, watering plants, or finding tools and seeds.
  • Active Slots: You can keep three pets active at a time, though additional slots can be unlocked. Extra pets aren’t wasted — they can be swapped in and out depending on your needs.
  • Progression: Pets age, gain XP, and require food to stay effective. Certain pets, such as Blood Owl, Moth, or Capybara, help with hunger or provide passive XP gains to accelerate progression.
  • Scaling: As pets age or mutate into Gold/Rainbow forms, their success rates and cooldowns improve. For example, an older Mole digs faster and refunds more gear, while a Rainbow variant of a Bee gives more reliable pollination.
  • Stacking: Abilities can also stack. Running multiple Polar Bears increases the Frozen/Chilled chance, and combining XP boosters like Owl + Night Owl + Blood Owl gives a powerful growth advantage.

The pet system in Grow a Garden adds real depth to farming strategy, but it also means making smart choices. If you want maximum profit, aim for S-tier pets like Kitsune, Dragonfly, Disco Bee, Raccoon, and Mimic Octopus. These companions provide multipliers and abilities that snowball into billions in crop value.

Early-game pets like Pack Bee, Mole, Capybara, Brown Mouse, and Honey Bee are great for a start, but long-term, focus on high-value mutation pets and cooldown resetters like Queen Bee.
