The Beanstalk Expansion update in Grow a Garden introduced the Friendship Shop, a new way to unlock rare pets, cosmetics, and special items. To access it, players must grow the Beanstalk, meet the Goliath NPC above the clouds, and raise their friendship level by offering cooked food. This guide explains how to get cooked food, how friendship points work, the level requirements, and the best items to buy first.

Growing the Beanstalk and Meeting Goliath
Before you can interact with the Friendship Shop, you’ll need to grow the Beanstalk. This requires submitting 900 points worth of plants to Jack. Once the Beanstalk is raised, climb to the cloud island and you’ll find the Goliath NPC. Interact with him and select “What are you selling?” to open Goliath’s Goods.

At first, you’ll only see the regular shop tab. To reveal the yellow Friendship tab, you must feed Goliath at least one cooked dish. From that point on, the Friendship tab will always be available.
How to Get Cooked Food
Cooked food is the key to raising your friendship level. To make it, you’ll need a Cooking Kit, which can be obtained by completing achievements in the Garden Guide.
The easiest Cooking Kit is earned by finishing the five Common achievements:
- Shovel 100 Plants
- Harvest 200 Carrots
- Gift 1 Carrot
- Sell 500 Strawberries
- Gift 5 Strawberries
You can also unlock Cooking Kits by completing all Rare and Mythical achievements. Once you have one, place the Cooking Kit in your garden. With ingredients in hand, interact with it, add the recipe’s items, press the green Cook button, and wait for the food to finish.
Friendship Points: Food Rarity and Value
Each cooked dish gives friendship points depending on its rarity. The higher the rarity, the more points you’ll gain:
Food Rarity | Points Gained |
---|---|
Common | 2 |
Uncommon | 3 |
Rare | 4 |
Legendary | 5 |
Mythical | 6 |
Divine | 7 |
Prismatic | 8 |
Transcended | 9 |
If you want to level up quickly, focus on cooking higher-rarity dishes. For example, 10 Prismatic meals will take you straight to Level 7 (80 points), while a mix of 10 Legendary + 5 Rare dishes reaches Level 6 (70 points).

Friendship Levels and Requirements
Here’s how many points are needed to reach each Friendship Level:
Friendship Level | Points Required |

Level 1 | 20 |
Level 2 | 30 |
Level 3 | 40 |
Level 4 | 50 |
Level 5 | 60 |
Level 6 | 70 |
Level 7 | 80 |
Each time you reach a new level, more items will unlock in the Friendship Shop.

The Friendship Shop contains exclusive rewards that can’t be obtained elsewhere. Items and prices may rotate, so if you don’t see something listed, use the Restock button (costs Sheckles) to refresh the shop.

Best Items to Get First
Not all shop items are equally valuable. Here are the ones worth prioritizing:
- Gnome Pet (Level 6) – Unlocks the Gnomed Mutation. Roughly every 10 minutes, there’s a 1.03% chance for a random fruit in your garden to mutate, and each additional Gnome cosmetic placed increases the chance by another 1.03%.
- Pet Shard GiantBean (Level 5) – Gives pets the Giant Bean mutation, making them larger and increasing hunger by 15%. It also boosts XP gain by +50 per second, though some players report it scales per Beanstalk owned. Check the in-game tooltip after updates to confirm the exact effect.
- Skyroot Chest (Level 1) – Contains rare seeds and Beanstalk pets, a solid pickup for collectors and mutation hunters.
Tips for Faster Progress
- Cook in batches to build friendship quickly.
- Save high-rarity meals (Divine, Prismatic, Transcended) for major level jumps.
- Restock regularly if you’re hunting for items like the Gnome or Pet Shard GiantBean.
- Aim for Friendship Levels 5–6 first if you want the strongest pets and mutations.
By steadily cooking meals, feeding Goliath, and managing your Sheckles wisely, you’ll unlock some of the most powerful pets and cosmetics in Grow a Garden.
