Niantic has lifted the curtain on the next big step for Pokémon GO’s Wild Area 2025—and it comes with a franchise milestone. For the first time, a Gigantamax Pokémon will be available in-game, headlining the global event with a full lineup of new debuts, battles, and rewards.

The Wild Area Returns
The first Wild Area event in 2024 brought in exciting features like Mighty Pokémon and the special Safari Ball mechanic. Both are making a comeback for 2025, but this year’s edition raises the stakes by spotlighting a true powerhouse: Gigantamax Grimmsnarl.
The event will run in two phases:
- Nagasaki, Japan (November 7, 2025) – A citywide kickoff with exclusive location rewards.
- Global rollout (November 15–16, 2025) – A two-day celebration for players worldwide.
Gigantamax Grimmsnarl Takes Center Stage
For trainers, the biggest draw is the debut of Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, appearing in six-star Max Battles.
- Battle Encounters: Trainers will need to team up to bring down this mischievous Fairy/Dark-type, which packs enormous strength in its Gigantamax form.
- Special Research: Completing the exclusive research track guarantees an encounter with Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, including the chance for a Shiny variant.
- Souvenir Backgrounds: Successful catches during the event may feature unique backgrounds tied to either Nagasaki or the Global Wild Area, immortalizing where the Pokémon was caught.

New Pokémon Debuts
The Wild Area 2025 also expands the Pokédex with new species:
- Impidimp, Morgrem, and Grimmsnarl – Making their Pokémon GO debut.
- Shiny Variants – Available for the first time, with Grimmsnarl’s Shiny form among the highlights.
These Pokémon can be found in the wild, from eggs, or evolved using Candy:
- 25 Candy → Impidimp to Morgrem
- 100 Candy → Morgrem to Grimmsnarl
Special Battles and Raids
Wild Area 2025 won’t just be about Grimmsnarl. Niantic is packing the event with a mix of encounters:
- Shadow Raids:
- Shadow Cresselia (Saturday)
- Shadow Darkrai (Sunday)
Both will be available in Shiny form for the first time.
- Event Raids: A wilderness cape-wearing Bewear joins the lineup, alongside other themed raid Pokémon.
- Mighty Pokémon: Returning again, these rare boosted Pokémon will roam the wild, with increased capture rates when using the Safari Ball.
Shiny Pokémon Highlights
A few more global Shiny debuts are coming with this event:
- Shiny Unown W
- Shiny Hatenna
- Shiny Impidimp
Ticket-holding Trainers will enjoy boosted Shiny odds, but all players will have a chance to encounter them in the wild, raids, or eggs.

Event Bonuses and Rewards
Wild Area 2025 offers a packed list of global bonuses:
- Up to three free Raid Passes per day (six for ticket holders).
- Increased Max Particle collection limits.
- Extra GO Snapshot surprises each day.
- Egg bonuses, including reduced hatch distance and higher odds of event-themed Pokémon.
- Ticket-exclusive perks like boosted Shiny chances, bonus Candy, reduced trade costs, and more.
Wild Area 2025 isn’t just another seasonal event—it’s the first time Gigantamax Pokémon are arriving in Pokémon GO. By tying together classic mechanics like raids, special research, and exclusive bonuses with the thrill of battling a massive Grimmsnarl, Niantic is blending Pokémon Sword & Shield’s legacy into the mobile game’s live-service future.
For fans, this marks a turning point: if Gigantamax Grimmsnarl is successful, it could pave the way for other Gigantamax forms—like Eevee, Garbodor, and more teased for later in the season—to follow.
