Riot Games’ 2XKO is the studio’s first major step into the fighting game genre, bringing iconic League of Legends champions into a fast-paced, tag-team arena. But for many players—especially those coming from MOBA backgrounds—the mechanics can be daunting. That’s where Pulse Combos come in. They’re designed to help new players get a handle on the basics, but are they worth keeping enabled long-term?

What Are Pulse Combos?
Pulse Combos are essentially auto-combos—a beginner-friendly assist system that lets players perform smooth attack sequences without memorizing complex inputs. Instead of timing each move, you can mash a single attack button and still execute a full combo ending in a flashy finisher.
You can toggle Pulse Combos on or off before a match during champion selection. When enabled, a rotating purple icon appears on-screen to indicate that the assist is active. Here’s how to turn them on:
- Xbox: RT
- PlayStation: R2
- PC: U
This system is meant to make 2XKO more accessible to casual players, but it comes with trade-offs in power and flexibility.
How Pulse Combos Work
Each Pulse Combo is tied to a specific attack type—Light, Medium, or Heavy—and has its own rhythm and Meter cost.
Combo Type | Input Pattern | Finisher | Meter Cost |
---|---|---|---|
Light Combo | 7 Light Attacks | Basic Combo | Free |
Medium Combo | 5 Medium Attacks | Ends with Super | 1 Bar |
Heavy Combo | 4 Heavy Attacks | Ends with Ultimate | 3 Bars |
You can also mix inputs mid-combo to create improvised strings, though the system will prioritize simplicity over precision. To trigger a Pulse Combo, you need to be close to your opponent and hit the buttons quickly.
While it’s fun and flashy, Pulse Combos automate resource usage. If you’ve got enough Super Meter, the game will automatically burn it for a finisher—even if you’d rather save it for a better opportunity later.
When to Use Pulse Combos
For Beginners: Turn Them On
If you’re new to fighting games or just learning 2XKO’s mechanics, Pulse Combos are incredibly helpful. They let you focus on positioning, blocking, and timing instead of memorizing complex input chains. This helps you get comfortable with each champion’s move set without being overwhelmed.
You’ll still be able to enjoy big, cinematic attacks, which keeps early matches fun while you learn.
For Experienced Players: Turn Them Off
As you gain experience, you’ll quickly hit the ceiling of what Pulse Combos can do. They’re predictable, weaker in terms of damage output, and they limit your creative control in fights. Since every Pulse Combo follows the same structure, skilled opponents can read your moves and counter easily.
Turning Pulse Combos off gives you manual control over your combos and your Super Meter, allowing for more advanced setups, resource management, and mix-ups. You’ll also avoid wasting Meter when your opponent is blocking.
If you want to experiment with custom combos, juggle mechanics, or character-specific techniques, it’s essential to disable the feature and head into Training Mode.
How to Turn Pulse Combos Off
If you’re ready to fight without assistance, here’s how to disable Pulse Combos from the main lobby:
- Go to the Settings menu (gear icon on the top bar).
- Select Controls.
- Find the Pulse Combo option.
- Switch it from On to Off using left or right.
No confirmation is required—the setting updates instantly. You can toggle it back on anytime if you need a refresher or want to help a new player learn.
