Star Citizen Lobby Error 60009 stops you from joining any match, usually with no explanation beyond the error code itself. It appears after pressing Join on the launcher, during peak hours, or right after a game patch.

The error points to a matchmaking failure, which can come from either your machine or CIG’s servers. This guide walks you through each possible cause and the steps to fix it, starting with what has worked for most players.
What Is Star Citizen Lobby Error 60009?
Error 60009 is a matchmaking failure. It typically means the game cannot place you into a lobby because the matchmaking service is either temporarily offline, overloaded, or failing to verify your session on the server side.
Common triggers include:
- Unplanned server outages or scheduled maintenance
- Corrupted local USER folder blocking session handshake
- Easy Anti-Cheat failing to authenticate before matchmaking starts
- VPN or proxy mismatch causing a region conflict
Fix 1: Delete the USER Folder
This is the most effective client-side fix for lobby and matchmaking errors in Star Citizen. The USER folder holds local settings and session data that can become corrupted after patches.
- Close Star Citizen and the RSI Launcher completely
- Open File Explorer and go to:
%AppData%\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE\ - Delete the entire USER folder
- Relaunch the game, it will recreate the folder automatically
Do not skip this step. Many players resolve Error 60009 here without needing anything else.
Fix 2: Repair Easy Anti-Cheat
EAC authentication happens before matchmaking starts. If EAC fails its handshake silently, the matchmaking service rejects the session and returns Error 60009.
- Open File Explorer and navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat\ - Run EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe
- Select Star Citizen from the game list
- Click Repair Service
- Restart your PC and relaunch the game
Fix 3: Switch Server Region
Star Citizen assigns matchmaking servers based on your selected region. If that region’s matchmaking pool is offline or overloaded, switching to another region often gets you into a lobby.
- Open the RSI Launcher
- Go to Settings
- Change your server region from US to EU or another available option
- Launch the game and attempt to join again
Fix 4: Reset the RSI Launcher Config
A corrupted launcher config can cause matchmaking calls to fail before they reach the server.
- Open the RSI Launcher
- Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R on your keyboard
- Confirm the reset when prompted
- Relaunch and log back in
Fix 5: Disable VPN or Change Exit Node
Matchmaking relies on your detected region to route your session correctly. An active VPN can mismatch your geographic region and cause the matchmaking service to reject the connection.
- Turn off your VPN entirely and retry
- If you need a VPN active, switch to an exit node in your actual region (US players on a US exit node, for example)
Fix 6: Check the RSI Launcher Log
Before spending time on fixes, check the launcher log to confirm whether the error is client-side or server-side. If the log shows matchmaking: disabled, the issue is backend and no local fix will resolve it.
Log location: %ProgramData%\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\
Open the most recent .log file in Notepad and search for “matchmaking” or “60009.” A server-side flag means your only option is to wait for CIG to restore the service.
Fix 7: Clear the Shader Cache
If the USER folder deletion did not help and the log shows no server-side flag, clearing the shader cache is the next step.
- Press Win + R, type
%localappdata%\Star Citizen\and press Enter - Delete all contents inside that folder
- Relaunch the game and allow shaders to rebuild on first load
Fix 8: Verify Game Files
- Open the RSI Launcher
- Click the Settings icon next to the Star Citizen install
- Select Verify
- Wait for the scan to complete, then relaunch
Is This a Server-Side Issue?
If multiple fixes fail and the issue started after a patch or during peak hours, it is likely a backend outage. Check the current server status before continuing to troubleshoot:
If servers are listed as degraded or under maintenance, wait for CIG to restore service. Report your issue via the Issue Council to help CIG prioritize the fix.
