Roblox Error Code 277 appears with the message “Lost connection to the game server, please reconnect. Please check your internet connection and try again.” It drops you from the experience without warning and blocks you from rejoining until you resolve the underlying problem.

The error points to a failed network connection between your device and Roblox’s game servers. It affects Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire, ChromeOS, Xbox, and PlayStation players. The most common triggers are Roblox server outages, an unstable internet connection, corrupted DNS cache, outdated app data, and VPN interference.
Work through the fixes below in order. Most players resolve the error within the first few steps.
What Causes Roblox Error Code 277?
- Roblox server outages: High server load or temporary downtime disconnects all players in an experience.
- Unstable internet connection: Packet loss or poor signal drops the connection to the game server mid-session.
- Corrupted DNS cache: Stale DNS records block your device from reaching Roblox servers.
- Corrupted Roblox logs or app data: Old or broken local files cause the client to fail on reconnect.
- VPN interference: VPNs reroute traffic through external servers that Roblox rejects.
- Outdated app or operating system: Running an old version of Roblox or your OS creates compatibility failures.
- Firewall or antivirus blocking Roblox: Security software can block the ports Roblox needs to maintain a connection.
- Memory overload (developers only): When a game exceeds its server’s allocated memory, every player disconnects with Error Code 277.
Fix 1: Check Roblox Server Status
Before touching any settings on your device, confirm that Roblox servers are online. A server-side outage produces the same disconnect symptoms as a local network problem, and no device-side fix will work while servers are down.
Visit the official Roblox Status page and look for the green “All Systems Operational” message. If any service shows degraded performance or an active incident, wait for Roblox to resolve it. Error Code 277 clears on its own once servers recover.
Server overload also causes Error Code 529 in Roblox during peak hours. If 529 appears alongside 277, the issue is almost certainly server-side.
Fix 2: Restart Your Internet Router
A weak or inconsistent internet connection is the most frequent cause of Error Code 277. Power-cycling your router clears the router cache and rebuilds a fresh connection.
- Turn off your router and unplug it from the power outlet.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait for a stable connection (usually 3 to 5 minutes).
- Reopen Roblox and try joining the experience again.
If you use Wi-Fi, move closer to the router or connect via an Ethernet cable to eliminate signal interference as a variable.
Fix 3: Restart Your Device
A device restart clears active memory and closes background processes that may interfere with the Roblox connection. This applies to every platform: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Xbox, and PlayStation.
iOS
- Press and hold the Volume button and the Side button together until the power-off slider appears.
- Drag the slider and wait 30 seconds for the device to power down.
- Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
Android
- Press and hold the Power button and tap Power Off.
- Wait 30 seconds, then press the Power button to turn the device back on.
After rebooting, relaunch Roblox and attempt to join the experience again.
Fix 4: Disable Your VPN
VPNs reroute your traffic through external servers, which can conflict with Roblox’s connection requirements. If you run a VPN while playing, disable it before launching the game.
Open your VPN client, disconnect from the active server, and try rejoining Roblox. If the error clears, your VPN was the cause. If you need the VPN active, switch to a server closer to your region to reduce latency and routing conflicts.
For a more detailed breakdown of VPN-related disconnects, see the dedicated guide on Roblox Error Code 279 when using a VPN.
Fix 5: Flush Your DNS Cache
Your DNS cache stores domain names and server addresses your device has connected to before. When these records become corrupted, your device cannot reach Roblox servers and triggers Error Code 277.
Windows
- Press
Win + R, typecmd, and press Enter to open Command Prompt. - Type the following command and press Enter:
ipconfig /flushdns- Wait for the “Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache” confirmation.
- Reopen Roblox and check if the error is gone.
Mac
- Press
Command + Spacebarto open Spotlight, then launch Terminal. - Run the command that matches your macOS version:
macOS 10.11 (El Capitan) and newer:
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSRespondermacOS 10.7 to 10.10 (Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks):
sudo killall -HUP mDNSRespondermacOS 10.5 to 10.6 (Leopard, Snow Leopard):
sudo dscacheutil -flushcachemacOS 10.4 Tiger:
lookupd -flushcache- Enter your password when prompted and press Enter.
- Relaunch Roblox and confirm the error no longer appears.
Fix 6: Delete Roblox Logs and Clear App Data
Roblox stores local logs and settings files on your device. When these files become corrupted, the client fails to connect and throws Error Code 277. Deleting them forces Roblox to generate clean files on the next launch.
Windows (Delete Logs)
- Press
Win + Eto open File Explorer. - Click the address bar and type
%LocalAppData%\Roblox, then press Enter. - Delete the GlobalBasicSettings_13 file.
- Open the logs folder and delete all files inside it.
- Restart your PC and relaunch Roblox.
Windows (Clear App Data Completely)
If deleting logs does not work, remove all cached Roblox data via Command Prompt:
- Uninstall Roblox first (see Fix 7 below).
- Press
Win + R, typecmd, and press Enter. - Run these commands one at a time:
cd AppData\Localrmdir /s Roblox- Type
ywhen prompted to confirm, then press Enter. - Restart your PC and reinstall Roblox.
Mac (Delete Logs)
- Press
Option + Command + Spaceto open Finder. - Press
Command + Shift + Gto open the Go window. - Paste
~/Library/Logsand press Return. - Locate the Roblox folder and move it to the Trash.
- Return to the Go window, paste
~/Library/Roblox, and press Return. - Delete the GlobalBasicSettings_13.xml file.
- Relaunch Roblox.
Fix 7: Reinstall Roblox
A full reinstall removes all corrupted files and installs the latest version of the Roblox client. This fix works on all platforms.
Windows 10 / 11
- Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Right-click Roblox and select Uninstall.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the removal.
- Download the latest version from the official Roblox download page and install it.

Remove Roblox using one of these methods:
- Drag the Roblox app to the Trash, or
- Select the Roblox app and press
Command + Delete.
After removing it, download and install a fresh copy from the official Roblox site.
Also verify that macOS has granted Roblox the necessary permissions. Go to Apple Menu > System Settings > Privacy and Security and turn on permission for Roblox.
iOS
- Press and hold the Roblox app icon on the home screen until the apps start to shake.
- Tap the X on Roblox or choose Delete App and confirm.
- Open the App Store, search for Roblox, and reinstall it.
Android
- Open Settings > Application Manager.
- Find and tap Roblox.
- Tap Uninstall and confirm.
- Reinstall Roblox from the Google Play Store.

Fix 8: Check and Update Your System and App
Running an outdated operating system or Roblox client can cause connection failures. Keeping both current prevents compatibility issues.
Windows
- Press
Win + Ito open Settings. - Click Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
Mac
- Open Apple Menu > System Settings.
- Click General in the sidebar.
- Click Software Update and install any pending updates.

- Click the menu icon in the Chrome browser (top-right).
- Go to More Tools > Task Manager.
- Select Roblox from the list and click End Process.
- Relaunch the game.
Fix 9: Correct Date and Time Settings (Mobile)
An incorrect date or time on your device can cause authentication failures that trigger disconnects. This most commonly affects iOS and Android players.
iOS
- Open Settings.
- Go to General > Date and Time.
- Enable Set Automatically to sync your device with the correct time.
- Relaunch Roblox.
Android
- Open Settings.
- Go to General Management > Date and Time.
- Enable Automatic date and time.
- Relaunch Roblox.
Amazon Fire OS
- Open Settings.
- Find Date and Time settings.
- Set the date and time to the correct values or enable automatic sync.
- Relaunch Roblox.
If you also see authentication failures alongside connection errors, check the guide on the Unable to Authenticate Error in Roblox (Code 0).
Fix 10: Open Router Ports for Roblox (Windows)
If other fixes have not worked, your router may be blocking the UDP ports Roblox needs to maintain a stable connection. Opening these ports can resolve persistent Error Code 277 on Windows.
- Press the Windows key and open Settings.
- Go to Network and Internet and click View your network properties.
- Copy the IP address listed next to Default gateway.
- Open a browser and paste the IP address into the address bar, then press Enter to access your router settings page.
- Enter your router’s username and password.
- Find one of the following sections: Port Forwarding, Applications, Gaming, Virtual Servers, or Advanced Settings.
- Create a new rule with these values:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Name / Description | Roblox |
| Type / Service Type | UDP |
| Inbound / Start Port | 49152 |
| Private / End Port | 65535 |
- Save the rule and restart your router.
Fix 11: Run Roblox in Compatibility Mode (Windows)
If Roblox struggles to run on your current Windows version, switching to compatibility mode can stabilize the connection.
- Right-click the Roblox icon on your desktop and select Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab.
- Check the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Select an older Windows version from the dropdown menu (Windows 8 or Windows 7 are common choices).
- Click Apply and OK.
- Relaunch Roblox.
If this does not resolve it, open the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter from the taskbar search and check whether Roblox appears in the list of incompatible apps. If it does, follow the on-screen prompts to apply the recommended settings.
Fix 12: Contact Roblox Support
If none of the fixes above resolve Error Code 277, submit a ticket to Roblox support.
- Go to the Roblox Support page.
- Fill out the contact form with your username, email address, and device type.
- Select Technical Support under the help category.
- Choose Roblox Crashing from the issue type dropdown.
- Describe the error message, your platform, and the steps you have already tried.
- Click Submit and wait for a reply.
Include your device model, OS version, and the exact error message text to speed up the support process.
Roblox Error Code 277 for Developers
If Error Code 277 is happening to all players in your experience simultaneously, excessive server memory usage is almost always the cause. When a game exceeds the server’s allocated memory limit, it crashes and disconnects everyone with Error Code 277.
Open the F9 menu inside Roblox Studio and navigate to Logs > Server > MemoryServer. Monitor memory usage during play. Once usage approaches 3000 MB, the server becomes unstable and a crash becomes likely.
To fix it:
- Identify scripts consuming the most memory and rewrite or optimize them.
- Reduce the total number of active scripts running at once.
- Test each significant script individually to isolate the source of the memory leak.
- Post in the Roblox Developer Forum Help and Feedback section if you need help identifying the root cause.
